20 STRINGS

Alberto Palazzi, solo guitar
Maurizio Mazzeo, rhythm guitar
Andrea Garombo, double bass
Simone Arlorio, clarinet
Luca Zanon, drums
Active since 2012 in Italy and abroad, the 20 Strings have explored and deepened the many facets of jazz manouche—from its contemporary interpretations to traditional repertoire—always keeping the reference to Django Reinhardt at the center, particularly the repertoire of the 1940s, characterized by an innovative musical language, a sharp electric sound, and the presence of the clarinet.
The group—composed of Alberto Palazzi and Maurizio Mazzeo (founder of the band) on guitars, Andrea Garombo on double bass, and Simone Arlorio on clarinet—presents a form of jazz manouche that condenses these years of exploration and experience.
Dedicating a festival to Jazz Manouche means, for Flashback, bringing into the ecosystem a music that was born on the margins.
Jazz Manouche emerged from the encounter between the European Romani tradition and American jazz, but above all from a historically marginal position: that of nomadic communities, accustomed to living between borders, never completely within a system, never fully assimilated. It is a music that does not develop at the center, but at intersections, in passages, in zones of contact.
In this sense, it is not only a musical language but also a way of seeing: oblique, mobile, capable of holding together memory and transformation without fixing itself into a single identity.
