INVITO_conf stampa_mAFF_edited.jpg

In the Flashback Habitat complex, ex children institute and maternity clinic, in the tallest building where the Mater sign stands out, a home for arthouse and art films is born, aiming to host and welcome the contemporary audiovisual arts movement through screenings, reviews, festivals, exhibitions and publishing projects.

In 2025, mAFF, the mater Art Film Festival, is born.

In its first edition, it hosts an international selection of short audiovisual works that represent, interpret or simply pay homage to the archetype of the mother in all her forms.
For its first edition, mAFF showcased the state of the art in audiovisual media through international authors, artists and directors who explored the theme of motherhood (Mother/Mom) with productions from 2020 to 2025.

A note on the use of expansive language

For a project like Flashback - by its very nature and poetics attentive to what lies at the margins, and to those other places, physical and mental, so often overlooked - language is a powerful means of contributing to change and a necessary instrument for observing the present.

This attention runs through everything we publish: in our publications and in our materials both online and offline. Here the reader will encounter a particular linguistic marker, the schwa (É™), which in Italian serves to limit the use of the generic masculine in favour of a broader, more open form of expression.
